Christian Responsibility

God ordained authorities to bear the sword on earth for our good. Since it pleases God when we live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity, God ordained authorities to bear the sword against all workers of iniquity- all fraudsters.
When the God-ordained sword-bearing authorities are used to defraud us and give the spoil to the vain, we know that principalities and powers are acting in spiritual wickedness.
Jesus showed, in a great parade seen in the spiritual realm, that He has overcome principalities and powers. To do that, He had to take their stuff. He took the authorities that God ordained to bear the sword against fraudsters of all kinds away from those principalities and powers.
And He gave that spoil as gifts to men. We who believe in Christ are joint heirs with Him of the spoil. The first generation of believers understood this. In that understanding, they turned the world upside down.
They put the fraudsters on bottom.
In other words, they returned the spoil to those who had been defrauded. If you don’t recognize the commandment of Christ to “sell that ye have and give alms” as, exactly, that, your mind hasn’t been renewed.
Now, all things are the property of Christ and His joint heirs. We must start “making the low places high and the high places low”.
We must remove the agents of the principalities and powers from any executive offices they may hold that make decisions concerning the bearing of the sword.
The principalities and powers have been bound in heaven. We must bind them on earth.
People who live peaceful and quiet lives on earth have been separated from their godliness and dignity by men who use sword-bearing power for the vanity of others. Those peaceful and quiet people have been released in heaven.  We must release them on earth.
And we, as people who have been made kings and priests by Him who is High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek, are the only ones who can.
Don’t hide your lamp under a basket.
Don’t bury your talent in a field.

Remembering to Be Gracious to God

[Col. 3:16]
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

“Singing with grace in your hearts to the LORD”?
Some of us have no problem believing that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ can do anything. On the other hand, we can begin to have a problem when He doesn’t respond to our concerns as quickly as we want.
We must remember that the condition of grace means that there are no debts. We don’t owe God anything but love- but He doesn’t owe us, either.
God has made promises.
And He will keep His promises.
And we must remember His promises.
At the same time, we must remember that God is keeping promises according to His schedule- not ours.
We can’t let the pain we’re feeling chill our gratitude for the Lamb that God sent to take away the sins of the world.
The Devil has us no longer.
The world that the Devil set up has been beaten. Christ spoiled the principalities and powers that blocked God’s light, and cast the “the shadow of death” over us.
Now, we walk as light through the valley of the shadow of death. We are occupiers of it- more than overcomers.
And the principalities and powers can’t stop us.
We struggle, as we walk through this valley, with the reasonings of men that are based on the doctrines of demons- but we do so with weapons fashioned, specifically, for such warfare.
Remember that the victory that overcomes the world is our faith.
Remember Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.
That means that Jesus started the faithful fight, and He’s coming back to finish it.
Stay in the fight.
Occupy till He comes.

Trading Up

[13][]And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
[Luke 19]

The Greek word rendered “occupy” in the scripture above is “πραγματεύσασθε (pragmateusasthe)”.
4231 pragmateúomai (from [4229][]/prágma, “a necessary matter, what is pragmatic”) – properly, the ancient mercantile term for trading(exchanging) to make gain, i.e. to do business (barter etc.); trading, exchanging (leveraging) one thing for another to make a legitimate gain; (figuratively) “to bear muchfruit” (cf. Jn 15:2f), i.e. the opposite of being fruitlessbecause refusing to make trades by “playing it safe.”

4231 (pragmateuomai) means “turning something over,” making a good trade – i.e. “to good account . . . to administrate, manage profitably the capital at your disposal” (C. Spicq, 3, 151).

Trading to make a gain is what we read about in Luke 18:
[28][28]Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee. [29][29]And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, [30][30]Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting…

…and, again, in Matthew 19:
[29][29 1]And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. [30][30 1]But many that arefirst shall be last; and the last shall be first.

First of all, were talking about people who have left livelihoods – lands/ἀγροὺς (agrous) and the people who made them productive. In other words, were talking about free people who stopped being yoked with unbelievers.

This is what Paul was taking about in 2 Cor. ch’s 6 & 7, and what John was talking about in Revelation 18:4…
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
